Global Skills Strategy (GSS): Start Working in Canada Faster
The Global Skills Strategy (GSS) allows eligible workers to have their work permit applications processed within two weeks, enabling you to start your job in Canada faster.
Who Is Eligible for 2-Week Processing?
Workers Hired Under the Innovation Stream
You may qualify for faster processing if:
- Your job falls under the Training, Education, Experience, and Responsibilities (TEER) category 0 or 1 of the National Occupational Classification (NOC) system.
Eligibility Criteria Based on LMIA Requirements
If You Don’t Need an LMIA (LMIA-Exempt):
You are eligible for 2-week processing if you meet the following criteria:
- You’re applying from outside Canada.
- Your job is classified under TEER category 0 or 1 of the NOC system.
- Your employer has submitted an offer of employment using the Employer Portal and paid the employer compliance fee.
Note: International Experience Canada (IEC) applicants are not eligible for GSS processing.
If You Need an LMIA (LMIA-Required):
You qualify for 2-week processing if you meet these conditions:
- You’re applying from outside Canada.
- You have a positive LMIA under the Global Talent Stream of the Temporary Foreign Worker Program. (This information will be stated on the LMIA decision letter.)
Spouses, Common-Law Partners, and Dependent Children
Family members can also benefit from 2-week processing if they apply at the same time as you. This includes applications for:
- Visitor visas.
- Work permits.
- Study permits.
To qualify, they must:
- Submit a complete application.
- Apply at the same time as you.
How to Get Faster Processing
To take advantage of the GSS, follow these steps:
Gather Required Documents
Obtain all necessary documents and information from your employer.
Apply Online from Outside Canada
Ensure your application includes:
- A completed medical exam (if required).
- Police certificates (based on local visa office requirements).
- Certified translations for documents not in English or French.
- All applicable processing fees.
Submit Biometrics
Complete your biometrics and ensure the results are submitted within two weeks of your application (if required).
